I had just joined a radio station in Chicago and my job was to anchor few music shows throughout the day. First thing, I used to do was greet my audience and from time to time, I had to remind my listeners about current time in Chicago right now, so that they can know the exact local time.
My work in radio studio was very hectic. After reaching the studio, I had to choose the songs which I had to play and then I had to put them in line so that the songs can be played accordingly.
One show of mine was based on song request hence I had to record that show in advance and next day I used to play the songs because it was very difficult to get the requested songs in real time. It was a pre-recorded show.
In the studio, I had to work 14 hours daily and it was not easy. I used to get a break of 1 hour after 2 shows but I never got enough break for myself because even in that 1 hour break, I had to prepare for other shows. Life was really very terrible.
The worst part of my job which I didn’t like was to keep on shouting current time in Chicago right now after every 30 minutes, just to remind listeners about the latest time. The problem with my shows was they were broadcasted back to back for 2 hours continuously and many times I had no time to take my lunch.
Though my job was tough but I really enjoyed playing music and interacting with people from all over Chicago. I played all kinds of music for people of Chicago and it was great fun. Getting praise for my work from live audiences was very satisfying and it helped me to concentrate more on my job.
The best part of my job was to take face to face interview of celebrities. I had two shows, where celebrities were invited for a chat and it was great, feeling as well as experience for me. I was always excited to host a celebrity guest.
My chat show with a celebrity got maximum number of live calls from people all across Chicago and it was the top rated show on all radio channels. At times, I used to request the celebrity guest on my show to announce current time in Chicago right now.
